Peck House Hotel & Restaurant83 Sunny Avenue Empire, CO 80438 Phone: 877-447-3613 Established in 1862 Number of Rooms: 11 Built as a home for James Peck, it soon became a favorite stagecoach stop for weary travelers driving over scenic Berthoud Pass and investors needing lodging while shopping for gold mines. The eleven guest rooms are outfitted with period antiques, some brought by ox cart from Chicago in 1862 by Mrs. Peck. The Peck House is the oldest hotel extant in Colorado. But it is the cuisine created by owner/chef Gary St. Clair that is favored by guests. The Peck House was a finalist in the Uncle Ben's 10 Best Country Inns of the Year Award; winner of In Search for the Best American Country Inn Cooking and also winner of The Governor's Award for Colorado Cuisine. The lodging is comfortable and attractive. Sally and Gary are delightful host. Empire is located in a very scenic area close to several ski areas and historic mining camps.
