Historic Hotel Colorado & Restaurant - Glenwood Springs, Colorado526 Pine St Glenwood Springs, CO 81601 Phone: 877-447-0956 Established in 1893 Number of Rooms: 130 The Historic Hotel Colorado is an icon in the quaint mountain town of Glenwood Springs, on the banks of the Colorado River. In the late 1800’s, entrepreneur Walter Devereux had a vision to create a world-class resort with a grand hotel and therapeutic natural hot springs, the largest mineral pool of its kind. The décor captures the Italian Renaissance era with antique furnishings, rich fabrics and ornate fixtures. An extensive $2 million restoration of the restaurant and lobby was completed in 2006. The lobby renovation returned the hotel to her original state with the lounge and dining room both revitalized back to their 1893 grandeur when fine dining and socializing were the feature attractions. Legend has it that the "teddy bear" was born here when the staff presented Theodore Roosevelt with a stuffed bear after a failed hunting expedition.
